This is Point of View

Point of View is a project that seeks to provide an alternative means of educating youth on sexual health in a creative means.

Point of View has released an educational DVD that contains a number of fictional films and one documentary that bring up questions about love, relationships, sex, globalisation, hiv/Aids among a number of other topics. The DVD also contains a methods handbook to be used by teachers and facilitators in their educatory endeavours. The films and the methods handbook are translated into Swedish and English.

We intend to workshop these teaching methods to interested parties in Sweden and South Africa for purposes of reaching a broader audience. Those parties who have participated in the workshops will receive the tools necessary to engage youth in debate concerning their sexual health. Not only will they receive the knowledge to educate youth, but they will also gain insight into alternative methods when engaging with youth. Workshop participants will be P.O.V. certified and will continue as peer educators in the P.O.V. project.

Point Of View was initiated by the Swedish Non-Governmental Organisation Streets: Youth for Justice in collaboration with members of Brown Paper Studios, U-Dubz TV and Seriously Playin’ – all of which are institutions established on University of the Western Cape, South Africa. Our main aim is to educate youth on Sexual Health, reproduction and youth culture. We utilize popular youth culture as a means of successfully educating youth through creative means that is relative and interesting to them. This project involves the performing arts as a platform for education.
